The David Glasser Foundation’s Shop with a Cop event on December 14 was a great success! A HUGE thank you to the 43 volunteer officers who took our 40 kids shopping; the 40 civilian volunteers who planned, organized and participated in today’s event; and the more than 15 private donations and sponsorships we received over the last few weeks to help fund this amazing event.
Target stores went above and beyond in hosting and providing all of the necessary extras; and we’d like to thank the City of Phoenix Police Department for bringing their ice cream truck and SWAT and K-9 units; as well as Peter Piper Pizza for feeding everyone; and TC Roofing for sponsoring our gift wrap tables!
”It’s more than the presents,” said Mark Anthony Bernal, father to one of the student shoppers. “It’s the environment; I love that they (the kids) get to interact with the officers. My youngest just told me he wants to be a policeman. That just shows that this is really making an impact,” he said.
That is what this event is all about – creating the opportunity for youth to have a positive experience with a police officer, leaving a life-long impact on all involved.
