On Saturday, December 1, 2018, 52 volunteer first responders from the Arizona Department of Public Safety; Phoenix Fire Department; and Ft. McDowell, Glendale, Phoenix, and Tempe Police Departments, took 40 kids from Cheatham Elementary school on a $225 shopping spree to buy gifts for themselves and family members this holiday season. They were able to wrap their gifts on site, take photos with Santa and explore various police and fire units, including the Phoenix Police Department’s new ice cream truck. This event brought these groups together to create a fun and impactful opportunity for kids to interact with police officers and first responders in a positive way. As the mother of one of the students said, “His (David Glasser’s) message is being heard. Something good came out of this; he didn’t die in vain.”
We want to sincerely thank all of the corporate and personal sponsors whose donations made this event possible, as well as all of our wonderful first responder and civilian volunteers, without whom we could not have had such a successful event.
